Thoroughly MOD-ern Milly

As noted I am obsessed with vintage. I love most things from yesteryear but it is no secret that I play favourites with eras. For example, my preferences are:
Victorian,
1920's,
1940's,
1950's and
1960's
(I know that sounds like a lot of favourites but there's a lot of history out there so really, list is quite a narrow list - also, it's MY blog so shuttup!).

But this post right here, is about the 60's. And 60's Mod dress in particular.

This is the era most people seem to associate with me anyway. My mum grew up in London at the tail end of the 60's. There she worked with my father as a fashion designer and in advertising, and as a teenager gogo-d her way about town with her best friend in fab clothing.

Fast forward 40 odd years, and guess what I do? GoGo. I'm one of Les Sataniques retro gogo dancers and my love of vintage extends equally to dance and fashion.

I'm not saying I LIVE the sixties, as I love many other eras fashion and dance styles too, but it kind of suits my personality and ethos, as well as my personal aesthetic. Problem being, with the pin-up and neo burlesque revival we have had a great resurgance in the availablility of 1940's and 50's fashion - but trying to find Mod-wear that isnt EITHER super cheap tacky costume pieces, or doesn't cost an arm and a leg to ship to Australia, is harder than explaining nude shades to a drag queen.

That is why I was delighted to come across "Marmalade" recently. A designer that specialises in (well-made) Mod pieces. There is a bit of a price tag associated, but when you look at the quality of the garment, it really isn't that great a price to pay. But with pieces like below, the issue for me is - which dress to buy myself for Christmas this year? (And for New Years, and for Chinese New Years, and for Thanksgiving and Hannukah - despite not being Jewish...)
