Timeless fashion - the tailored blazer |
The title of this article really is two-fold ('cos I'm clever that way). I wanted to say something about the concept of 'fads' and what's 'in', and then steer us back to what is timeless.
I hate the concept of fashion as being something that must be adhered to. I think that's fads come and go, and when they roll around you should by all means sample and see if that trend is complimentary to your own personal aesthetic - but don't just wear it because everyone else is.
Case in point - Leggings/jeggings. Look great on some people. Look ghastly on others most. My passion on this one is so strong that I got beaten up over it in Fremantle (yes, ok I was drunk and yes, ok I may have yelled "camel toe" at a group of 6 girls who were armed with an empty whisky bottle... I would like to thank my associate that night, Adam for saving my life from my big mouth).
It saddens me when a group of girls are all dressed the same. Does it mean their personalities are all carbon copies of one anothers also?
To steer this mini-rant (a 'rantlet'?) in a more positive direction, I'd like to review the flip side of a trend. Some things, will always be in style. I am now working as a lawyer (AC anyway) and am regaining appreciation for office clothes. A well cut suit, or less formally, a well cut blazer are items that have been in style since the day before yesteryear and will continue to do so for a few simple reasons - They are flattering; They are classic; They are customisable enough to still allow you to display some of your personality.
Classic - For when they got it right the first time

So... have I made myself clear?
Tailoring = good. I will be indulging myself and having several lovely suits and jackets tailor made when Le Boy and I visit his parents in Hong Kong later this year. I shall also be able to get shoes that actually fit my ridiculous (children's size 1/2) feet!
Now to leave you with that which we all love best... pretty dresses...
